4-H awards program set for Oct. 16

 4-HRe-enrollments due Nov. 15

Greene County 4-H members and volunteers will be recognized for their achievements and contributions at the annual Greene County 4-H awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 16, at Deal’s Orchard west of Jefferson. The public is welcome to attend.

Awards will recognize 4-H members for their achievements in a variety of project areas, from science and engineering to swine and poultry. More than 50 4-H members submitted their record books this year, documenting their work.

Also, leaders and adult volunteers who have served five, 10, 15, 20, 25, or more years in the 4-H program will receive much deserved accolades. Local organizations and current or past volunteers will also be awarded for their time and promotion of the 4-H program.

This year’s activities are a departure from past Awards Day events.

Kayla Hyett, Greene County youth & 4-H coordinator said, “We wanted to do something fresh this year and combined the August picnic with Awards Day and moved the event to Deal’s Orchard.”

The event begins at 3:30 pm with “Minute to Win It” games and all the fun activities. Peoples Trust & Savings Bank will sponsor a trip through the Corn Maze for each 4-H member. The youth development committee is sponsoring and preparing a picnic meal beginning at 5 pm and the awards Ceremony will start at 6 pm.

Hyett encourages parents and youth interested in 4-H to take time to attend the awards ceremony and see the wonderful skills 4-H members are learning each year. “Please join us for a day of celebration!”

Re-enrollments due soon: 4-H members are also reminded to finish the online re-enrollment process for the 2016-17 4-H year. The deadline for re-enrolling is by the close of business (4:30 pm) on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

There will be a late fee of $25 if the online process and the enrollment fees are not turned in on time. If families are having difficulties re-enrolling online, they may set up an appointment with Extension staff to complete the re-enrollment process. New 4-H members are welcome to join at any time during the 4-H year without the late fee penalty.
